Welcome to Groovy Gourds!
Groovy Gourds is all about revealing nature and intricate patterns through carved dried gourds. I enjoy creating carved gourd art pieces and would like to share them with you. Please visit often as new pictures and features are added. Enjoy your visit!
Gourd CreationsThere are so many ideas to incorporate into carved gourd art and I've only begun to scratch the surface. I use a variety of techniques for creating my gourd art. The three primary methods are carving through to the inside of the gourd, deep relief carving, and pyrography (burning patterns).
Most of my works that are open to any degree (whether works with small openings or open bowls and vessels) are painted or finished inside. I use a variety of stains and dyes and often incorporate the natural coloration of the pieces. Various finishes, including high gloss shellac, matte acrylic spray and buffed waxes help bring out colors and patterns and add protection.

I've been privileged to have my gourd art work on display in the Cape Girardeau, Missouri area in a variety of locations. I've enjoyed being a part of the local arts.
Currently, you can find a nice variety of my pieces at the MoZaic Art Studio within Bilderbach Art Plaza, #5 Main Street, downtown Cape Girardeau, Missouri. The studio is open Friday and Saturday afternoons and evenings. There are usually special displays, refreshments and live entertainment during the "First Fridays" of each month. I hope to see you there! |
I create carved gourd art not only for the wonderful joy I receive in producing fine art, but to feed starving children throughout the world. How does Groovy Gourds do that?
When an art piece sells, for every dollar spent, one child is fed for one day through Feed My Starving Children (FMSC). FMSC is a non-profit Christian organization committed to "Feeding God's Starving Children Hungry in Body and Spirit". Click here for information on purchasing gourd art pieces
