What is "Groovy Gourds"
I've always enjoyed creating things and carving. I began carving gourds during the summer of 2009 while vacationing with my family in Canada. My first piece was given to my parents for Christmas and they were quite impressed. Several gourds later, friends and family encouraged me to begin offering my art pieces for sale and Groovy Gourds was born. Groovy Gourds is a registered Missouri business and I currently sell through my home and personal contacts, on line at http://www.etsy.com/shop/groovygourds and locally in downtown Cape Girardeau, Missouri at MoZaic Art Studio.
The mission of Groovy Gourds is to create unique works of art that express the wonders of God's creation for the enjoyment of those who view them and own them and to provide customers the ability to feed starving children through their purchases.

Who is Steven Juhlin?
I'm just a simple gourd carver who's been given the talent and opportunity to create. I enjoy designing new patterns and expressing my creativity through the transformation of a dried gourd into an art piece. Given my love of nature and background in the sciences, many of my art pieces include natural items, which blends nicely with the organic nature of gourds. My enjoyment of playing traditonal Celtic music is also expressed in my use of incorporating Celtic designs.
I have a wonderful wife and 3 terrific kids who have been very supportive of my gourd carving. We enjoy spending time together on our 1-acre naturescaped piece of the earth, travelling to new places, playing music and being involved through our church.
Why Feed the Children?

An adorable family I met while in Mozambique
There are millions of people throughout the world who do not have enough food to sustain them and children are dying every day from lack of something to eat. In North America alone, we have enough food and resources to feed every child in every nation every day.
Having grown up in a missions-minded family, knowing friends and family who are serving in third world countries, and having personally seen starving children in Mexico, Haiti and Mozambique, how can I not be driven to support the cause of caring for the poor and hungry? There's a scripture verse in the Bible (Jeremiah 22:16) that sums it up well: "He defended the cause of the poor and needy, and so all went well. Is that not what it means to know me? declares the Lord." Also, in the book of Matthew in the Bible, Jesus said, "For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat." (Matthew 25:35), attesting to the fact that if we serve others in His name, we are serving Him.
For these reasons, when an art piece sells, for every dollar spent, one child is fed for one day through the Feed My Starving Children organization. Thank you for joining me in saving children's lives!
